Betsy de Thierry

Betsy has pioneered projects to see children, young people & their families find restoration in the face of their difficulties; find support in the isolation of their struggles; and find care and love in the harshness of life.

Betsy first qualified as a counsellor and primary teacher in 1994 and has worked in these fields since that time.

She has an MA in counselling and psychotherapy.

History

Vision

Betsy wants to see those who have been traumatised, hurt or misunderstood, find hope, healing and have a positive future. She is committed to supporting those working with vulnerable people and empowering them to enjoy life in the midst of the tough terrain of helping others.

Betsy is energetic and enthusiastic about life and holds firmly to the view that there is always a way and no one is beyond healing and hope.

Consultancy

BdT Ltd offers consultancy to organisations and professionals who are working with traumatised people and are needing extra specialised training or support on individual cases.

Due to the demand for consultancy, the stage one of the BdT trauma Recovery focused framework training has to be completed first, so a shared language can be used so we can help effectively.

Consultancy fees start at £150 per hour.

Training

Betsy also runs training across the UK and further afield continually- do look at social media or sign up for her newsletter to see where you can catch her training although most of it is in 'closed' settings due to being booked by an organisation!

Betsy has pioneered a course called the Certificate in Therapeutic Mentoring which is a popular course equipping people to help others recover from trauma rather than manage the symptoms. This 12 course is offered now online on zoom. People from all over the globe become students!

Organisations

Betsy is also involved in other organisations across the UK. She has pioneered the Trauma Recovery Centre www.trc-uk.org and having founded it she continues to train the staff in the BdT Trauma Recovery Focused Framework; and continues to work with the charity in the role of Chair of the Trustees. It has its HQ in Oxford and a flagship centre in Bath,  with another centre in Guernsey. She is a trustee of a number of organisations that work with trauma. She is a consultant with a number of charities who are involved with traumatised families, trafficked people, refugees and those professionals who are stalked and she offers advice and assessment.

Therapeutic Mentoring Rooms

The Therapeutic Mentoring Rooms are found in schools, run by therapeutic mentors who have completed the CTM training. These rooms are spaces for traumatised children to follow treatment plans written by BdT associates to help them recover from trauma. This pioneering project is helping children across the trauma continuum find healing.

Her model for schools was explored for UNICEF
